Leigh & Rus’s Wedding Story…

Here at Georgina Scott Bridal we love nothing more than hearing stories from our brides and grooms, whether they be funny, sad or soppy! We love them all! We get to meet our couples in the middle of their journey together, so we become curious about the beginning; such as how they met and how the all important proposal went!

We get to know our brides so well, many become friends, and some of their beautiful stories bring us to tears. Happy tears of course!! And we wanted to share some of them with you. Whether you smile at them, cry or just have comfort from them, hearing from brides themselves that weddings can be full of ups and downs but all in all there is no need to stress… it all works out perfect in the end.

Here is the story of the gorgeous Leigh & Rus…

The beginning & the proposal…

“Rus was one of my brother’s best friends… There was a “”My best friend and my sister?!” moment like in Friends… been together three years now.”

“As a singer in an acoustic duo with my dad, I was booked for a private birthday party at Stone Manor hotel. Dad picked me up to drive to the venue after wishing Rus a good day at the Wolves match. I walked in and the staff showed me to the room where the “party” was. On the table, in front of a roaring fireplace, was a laptop with earphones in it. On the screen read: Leigh, put the earphones in and press enter. I was very confused and still thought this was part of the booking! I even asked the lady whether I had to wait for dad to listen with me! As soon as I saw Rus’ face appear on the screen, I knew. I just sat there laughing as he introduced the video and then laughter turned to happy tears as one by one, videos of all our nearest and dearest appeared, with messages about how they knew what Rus was up to and how they wished us well. (Including one of my parents rapping their own version of Ed Sheeran…) Finally, when I turned around, everyone in the video was behind me and Rus was there on one knee with the most beautiful ring ever. Romantically, my first response was to swear at him for tricking me! Then I said yes. We then all had afternoon tea and a lovely, lovely afternoon celebrating together before jetting off to New York the very next day! It was perfect”.

The dress…

“I chose GSB because I had always driven past and thought how lovely it looked, plus having researched lots of bridal shops, they stocked what I thought was the best collection and widest variety of brands and styles. I can’t really say who stood out because I think at some point in the process, I had the pleasure of everyone looking after me! Tracie was amazing though and such a lovely lady!”

“I chose my dress because it was just so unique, classy, elegant and perfectly me. From the moment I put it on, it was so comfortable and fitted me just perfectly. I didn’t want to take it off!”

The wedding… 25th August 2018…

“We walked down the aisle to an orchestral version of our song, Over and Over Again, by Nathan Sykes, which our friend played and recorded for us. Our first dance was a secret dance off against each other, each having practiced two dances in secret, which we only saw for the first time on the wedding night!”

“We did everything ourselves, and all in 10 months. My parents helped out massively with days out, the flowers, and some of the larger crafts. Rus’s parents gave us an early gift towards our honeymoon, which was lovely and took the pressure off us having to save for all of that, too”.

“Also, the suppliers we chose were AMAZING- so good at what they did; I had total trust in them and my goodness they followed through. Last person to mention, other than Jonathan, our photographer, being the most talented human ever, is Julia, the owner of Garthmyl Hall: she made us feel like the Hall was truly ours and invested so much of herself in helping the day itself to run perfectly, and even had time for sambucas with the groomsmen at the end of the night! Love her!”

“When you’re as lucky as we were, getting married was bittersweet: we met so many wonderful human beings through our suppliers, vendors, and every other aspect of wedding planning that it’s a bit sad when you get to the end and you can’t see these people again! To all involved in our wedding- you’re like a secret best friend club that I want to keep and just do it all over again with! Love you all lots!”

What we would have done differently and our advice…

“Not a single thing”.

“Enjoy every single second of the build up- make a day of everything so you make so many memories along the way with everyone who matters. Remember the reason you’re doing it- to marry each other!”
