Syreata & Andrew’s Story…

Here at Georgina Scott Bridal we love nothing more than hearing stories from our brides and grooms, whether they be funny, sad or soppy! We love them all! We get to meet our couples in the middle of their journey together, so we become curious about the beginning; such as how they met and how the all important proposal went!

We get to know our brides so well, many become friends, and some of their beautiful stories bring us to tears. Happy tears of course!! And we wanted to share some of them with you. Whether you smile at them, cry or just have comfort from them, hearing from brides themselves that weddings can be full of ups and downs but all in all there is no need to stress… it all works out perfect in the end.

Here is the story of the fabulous Syreata & Andrew

The beginning…

“Andrew and I met in 2006 in Indy Bar in Birmingham, we literally bumped into each other while dancing!  We laughed it off, exchanged numbers and went our separate ways.

A few  weeks after we arranged a date and we’ve been together ever since!. Andrew knows me very well, I’d always commented that I wanted a really toned down proposal, nothing too out there, and also that I love Christmas.

In 2014 on Christmas morning as our daughter played with her Frozen toys, Andrew appeared with a ring box!!

I was so puzzled and excited I almost forgot to say yes…I was also pregnant with our second child, Tamiah, which made it even more special!”

The dress disaster ( and rescue!)…

“I came to Georgina Scott Bridal after being severely let down by another boutique when it closed without notice, my dress had never even been ordered and the deposit retained!.

I joined a group set up on Facebook which was created by another affected bride and there we attempted to source gowns elsewhere.

Tracie at GSB posted and offered to source dresses for brides who had been let down by the other boutique,  I thought it was too good to be true but not only did she call her Pronovias contact direct, she had the dress delivered from Italy within 2 days!

I was blown away by the selfless, heartfelt actions of Tracie and the entire team.

From fittings, to alterations and accessories, the team were magnificent, it soon became clear that this was just how they operate, with care, consideration treating each and every bride as part of the family.

Paul, Tracie and the team truly are the epitome of customer service excellence!

I wanted a bodycon silhouette to show my figure (after our three children!) but also wanted the romance and drama created by tulle layers on the skirt.

A luxe look and feel, plus allowing my bold personality to shine through was also really important to me… “Mildred” by Pronovias gave me everything I wanted and more.

Since our wedding was in Cuba (and it’s our favourite place on Earth!) it was important for me to pay homage to Spanish culture and the flamenco look.”

The wedding… 19th October 2017…

“We lost a very dear family member in the months leading up to the wedding, this placed a great deal of emotional distress into an already stressful scenario and paused preparations.

There was “dressgate”, I can laugh about it now, but at the time having paid a large deposit and have no dress was really (really) upsetting.

Finally there was hurricane Irma which had caused devastation in the north of Cuba, and seriously damaged our hotel only weeks before we were due to depart.

Family were key in supporting us through some really difficult times, whenever we needed to talk things through, go shopping last minute, make decorations and even once we arrived in Cuba, our family is the support system we couldn’t have managed without.

40 family and friends flew out to Cuba to witness our marriage and those memories will last forever!

I also class the GSB team as family, they really invested in me and my bridal journey, they were passionate and committed to turning my entire experience around so I could still have the gown and wedding the way I’d dreamt it.

My husband, my family and I are eternally humbled by the selfless actions of the entire GSB team.”

What we would have done differently and our advice…

“Chosen GSB in the first instance!

My advice to brides and grooms is, don’t sweat the small stuff!  All the stress washes away as you walk towards your future husband, say your vows and have your first dance.

On our wedding day we smiled so much, laughed, drank, danced, everything had come together just the way we had planned, though weeks and months earlier it was doubtful if anything would go to plan.

“A wedding does not a marriage make”  always remember once the wedding is over it’s the marriage that really matters.

Also having the hotel’s wedding coordinator meant I could literally select cakes, flowers, hairstyle, location, meal and then…relax.  I would definitely recommend this if possible.

For weddings abroad, we did have a UK reception two weeks once we were back which in effect was a second wedding, I’d really recommend it, you get to celebrate again and wear the dress twice too!”

4 Steps to Choosing Your Bridesmaid Dresses

A huge aspect of many weddings is presentation; how everything will look once it is put in place. And although the bride should be the star of the show, she still needs her bridesmaids standing behind her, confident and stylish.

Choosing your bridesmaids dresses can be a difficult task, especially when they are a mixed group of people, all with their own style. But it is possible to please everyone, as long as you follow these steps:

Do Your Research

Look online for inspiration on how you would like to organise your bridesmaid style. Traditional weddings most often ask their bridesmaids to wear identical dresses for sophistication and uniformity. Whereas, modern weddings tend to opt for similar dresses, all with their own twists.

More creatively, brides have been dressing their bridesmaids in various shades of the same colour or the same colour but in different dress styles. Therefore, there is still consistency and sophistication, but each bridesmaid can shine in their own way, in a dress that flatters their body and individual style.

Stay Within Budget

A lot of bridesmaids will already know that they will be expected to pay for their own bridesmaid dress. Therefore, when shopping keep in mind their lifestyles and what their realistic budget will be, so that there is no extra pressure.

Body Shape

Also, because they are paying for their own dress, help make it something they will cherish forever and possibly wear again.

Consider your wedding theme and the styles you are looking for at your wedding, but then ask them to add their own personal touch. For example, shortening or lengthening the dress or adding a more flattering neckline are popular choices. This will provide your bridesmaids with a dress they can feel confident in, while still sticking to your wedding’s theme and looking the part.

Accessorising

After finding the right dresses, it’s now time to find the right accessories to complement their outfits and hairdos. There is a lot to consider, such as which jewellery will you choose? Sandals or heels? Sashes or hairbands?

It is also just as important to find the appropriate lingerie to flatter each dress, including shapewear and the right style of bra.

Here at Georgina Scott Bridal our specialist team are here to provide our expertise during bridal and bridesmaid fittings to help you find the right dresses for your special day. To book an appointment for your bridal party to come in and explore our range, call our team on 01384 893656

Steph & Matt’s Story…

Here is the story of the beautiful Steph & Matt…..

6

The beginning…

“We met when we were both teenagers on the dance floor of a local nightclub! We went on a few dates and decided to make it official.  The teen romance lasted and we have now been together for 13 years. Matt proposed when we were on holiday in Kefalonia in September 2016. We hired a small boat and spent the day going between small secluded beaches that can only be reached by boat. One of the beaches is where a famous scene was filmed for Captain Correlli’s Mandolin, so when we reached it, Matt anchored the boat and then surprised me with a ring!”

The dress…

“All 3 of my best friends had their own wedding dresses from Georgina Scott. They said it would be fate if i also found my dress there.  When we met Tracie she was so helpful and patient. Each time we went back Tracie was friendly and we always enjoyed a chat! Although it took me a while to finally decide on my dress, ‘The One’ was waiting for me at Georgina Scott. My alterations were perfect and I absolutely loved wearing my beautiful Pronovias dress on my wedding day.  I have had so many comments on how stunning it was!”

The wedding… 29th May 2018

We fell in love the Mill Barns from viewing the plans and booked it when it was just concrete in the ground.  We knew they would create a beautiful venue and when we saw it completed we couldn’t believe how stunning it was and we felt so lucky to have booked it for our big day. After booking the venue, we had 19 months to plan our wedding day.  We booked all of our key suppliers early on in the process so the structure of the day was sorted.  I then concentrated on choosing a dress.  Once I had my lovely lace dress, we looked for bridesmaid  dresses to complement it and then chose a hessian and lace theme for all of the little details to tie in with my dress.

3

Mum was a big help in the months before the wedding as she made our table runners and helped with lots of our other DIY decorations and last minute shopping trips.  Family and friends helped a lot with the little details as it got closer to the day.  Luckily everything went to plan and we had no hick ups!  The key is being organised early, having lots of lists and a spreadsheet!

2

Our day was perfect and we both loved every minute of it.  I can’t think of anything I would change.  My advice to other brides is to relax on your wedding day and try to take it all in from the moment you wake up to the last dance of the night! You want to be able to capture the special feeling you have on the day and remember it for the rest of your life!

Wedding Dress Etiquette

With the Royal Wedding just days away, excitement is mounting as we all look forward to seeing the Royal couple and in particular Meghan Markle in her wedding dress. It is widely expected that the gown will have a six-figure price tag and be every bit befitting of a future princess. Whilst most wedding budgets won’t stretch that far, there’s no reason why you can’t bring a sense of decorum to your own nuptials by following traditional wedding dress etiquette.

wedding dress etiquette

Who pays for the dress?

It is reported that the Royal Family may be covering the cost of the wedding, and for this to include the bride’s dress, however it is entirely feasible that Meghan Markle may contribute to this herself, in keeping with more modern practice.  Whilst traditionally, it is the bride’s family who pay for her wedding dress, nowadays it is completely normal for costs to be split between families or for different family members to pay for different items, because at the end of the day, once the vows have been made, they will all become one family anyway!

Who can see the dress before the wedding?

Whilst it is said to be bad luck to let the groom see the bride in her dress prior to the wedding, it is probably true that most brides would prefer to keep their dress a secret from the majority of family and friends, to make it even more exciting on the big day when they reveal all.   Who you choose to go wedding dress shopping with depends ultimately on whose opinions you value the highest, but you might also want to get the approval of your mum or future mother in law.

Of course, Meghan Markle’s dress will have been approved by the Queen but it is understandable that the Royal Family would need to have input on such an important element of the wedding to ensure that it is appropriate for the occasion.  Certainly, it will also have the wow factor you would expect from one of the most viewed wedding dresses of all time, and with the input of someone with such a keen sense of fashion as Meghan Markle, we know we won’t be disappointed!

What colour should the wedding dress be?

Whilst white is said to be the colour of perfection and purity, very few wedding gowns are actually pure white nowadays, simple because it can look very stark against the natural tones of skin.  Most brides opt instead for ivory and shades of white through to cream and pale gold for a more flattering look.

Where should the dress be kept?

Whilst the gown for any royal occasion will naturally be shrouded in secrecy, to protect any leakage of information, most brides will be content just knowing that their dress is being kept safe.  Once you have had your final fitting you will be able to take your dress home to store it ready for the big day, so here are a few tips to help keep it in perfect condition:

  • When you collect your dress hang it off a high hook to avoid creasing the train but, if the train is too long, support it from underneath with a round backed chair.
  • Store your dress in a room that isn’t too hot or cold and avoid storing in direct sunlight.

How can we help?

Whether you are getting married this year, next year or are just looking forward to reliving your own special memories when watching the Royal Wedding this weekend, enjoy!  If you or anyone you know needs help choosing the perfect wedding dress, please get in touch with the team at Georgina Scott Bridal and we’ll be happy to talk you through our options from traditional dresses to modern gowns and everything in between.  Call us on 01384 893656 to book an appointment, call in to our Stourbridge store or click here to see pictures of our gorgeous brides.

What to consider when you start wedding dress shopping

If you’re lucky enough to be engaged, you’ll know the sheer number of things you need to think about when you start to plan your wedding. One of the most exciting tasks that should be at the top of your to do list is to find the perfect wedding dress – and what better time to start your search than Marriage Week which runs from the 7th to the 14th February?

marriage week
Even before you got engaged, you may have been imagining what the wedding dress shopping process will be. Where will you go? Who will go with you? And what kind of style do you think you might go for? Well, fear not, we’ve put together a list of everything you need to think about.

1. Set your budget

Once you’ve planned your wedding budget, you’ll need to decide what portion of that to spend on your dress. Don’t forget to include accessory items such as a veil, shoes, hair accessories and alterations as these are not normally include the cost of your gown.

wedding dress shopping

2. Pick out some inspiration

You might not know what kind of wedding dress style you like, so finding some photos of styles you like can help you in your mission. Wedding magazines and websites like Pinterest are fantastic place for wedding inspiration, from gowns and head pieces to flowers and venue ideas. Don’t forget to take your ideas when you have your wedding dress appointments!d2352-4new

3. Make a list of wedding dress boutiques to visit

Finding out what wedding dress shops are in your local area is a great place to start your search. Unlike most retailers, wedding boutiques normally require you to make an appointment, so don’t forget to ring them and book in before you visit. While it can be tempting to only visit the boutiques that stock the designers you like the look of, you might be pleasantly surprised by trying on something you hadn’t considered.

4. Make sure you go shopping in good time

When you shop for a wedding dress you need to plan much further ahead. This is because wedding dresses are often very ornate with lots of intricate detailing and specialist fabrics and can take many months to make. Leaving your shopping expedition could mean that you miss out on your dream dress – so get arranging those appointments as soon as you can!

d2478-1-530x845

5. Think about the customer service you want

The dress and boutique go hand in hand so when choosing your wedding gown remember it isn’t a one visit event, you will revisit the boutique time and time again during the period leading up to your wedding. At Georgina Scott Bridal we pride ourselves on impeccable customer service and strive to make everyone feel comfortable within the boutique as entering a bridal boutique can be a daunting prospect.
If you are in search of the perfect wedding dress, please call us to book an appointment on 01384 892656. Every bride has a dedicated team member to help them choose ‘the one’.

Join us for the Georgina Scott Bridal Showcase

We’re giving you the chance to beat the January blues and get ahead with your wedding planning as we host a bridal showcase at Blakelands Country House later this month.  It’s a popular event in the Georgina Scott Bridal calendar, as each year we transport virtually the entire contents of our bridal shop to the Blakelands Country House and Restaurant in Staffordshire.

bridal showcase

It’s the perfect opportunity for Brides to Be to browse and try on gowns from our various designers and have a look around the house – possibly sorting the dress and venue in one go!

This year’s showcase takes place on:

Day:      Sunday 28th January

Time:    12.00 to 16.00

Venue: Blakelands Country House, Halfpenny Green, DY7 5DP

Our visitors will have the chance to try on and purchase dresses from us at this free to attend event, and with tea and coffee being served and the Blakelands bar open, it is the perfect opportunity to indulge in a little wedding shopping ahead of your 2018 or 2019 big day.

3 reasons why you should attend our Bridal Showcase

  1. To make a personal connection – you will probably be spending the next 6-18 months planning your wedding, so it is important that you like, trust and get on with the people providing your wedding services. By meeting the Georgina Scott Bridal team in person now, you can rest assured that we’ve got the expertise, experience and friendly faces to ensure your dress shopping is a huge success.
  2. To find out what is popular – you may have a wedding theme in mind or have seen designers that you like, but until you see the different styles of dresses available and try them on you won’t know what suits you or what will be in keeping with the theme you have planned. Our bridal showcase is the ideal opportunity to view the latest ranges from a wide variety of designers, inspired by everything from vintage to contemporary styles.
  3. To get advice – if you are new to wedding planning (which you probably are!) then chances are you won’t have much information in terms of timescales or what to anticipate when choosing a bridal gown. Our showcase event is a good opportunity to ask questions about what happens after your have chosen your dress, so you know what to expect in the run up to your big day.

If you can’t attend our Bridal Showcase on the 28th don’t worry as you can call us on 01384 893656 or connect with us on Facebook, to book an appointment at our Stourbridge store.
